[Atomic Robo] It's Sagan-tastic!
Dave Chalker over at Critical Hits interviewed Fred Hicks, Brian Clevinger, and me about ARRPG. In amongst the banter, there's some actual information about the game to be had, so check it out.
We're very excited about Carl Sagan. (And crystals.)
Speaking of Dave, does anyone else out there own the Well of Souls RPG? A friend of mine in junior high was absolutely fanatical about the Well of Souls series and waged a near-ceaseless campaign to get the rest of us in our D&D group to read it. (At least, that's how it seemed at the time. He probably just read it and said, "Hey, I really like these books. You guys should read them." Then we blew it all out of proportion.) When I saw the RPG on eBay a few years ago, I had to get it.

So the game and plans for it continue to sound great. I especially like what I am hearing about playing in different time periods.
Out of curiosity what is the continuity cutoff for what goes into the book? The Ghost of Station X should be done soon, but after seeing some of the concept art on Scott Wegener's blog I really want Atomic Robo & The Flying She-Devils to be in the book. Almost to the point of being willing to wait a few extra months so they can make an appearance.
So have there been any discussions about what info from the comic goes in the rpg book, and what the cut off point might be?
Not yet, but I so totally am with you on the She-Devils. That's, like... yes. I don't know what the timeline's like on that, though.
The end of The Ghost of Station X definitely suggests some further adventures along the same lines, but at least that'll be long done before the RPG comes out.
Morgan, that's a semi-complex question.
On the one hand, this game is likely to be released by the time issues of Vol 9 start to come out. On the other, we currently have plans for up to Vol 14 or 16 depending on how a couple ideas shake out.
So, do we stop at the last completed series, Vol 8? Or the then current series, Vol 9? Or at any later point?
My thinking right now is to aim for providing details on everything we know to be in the timeline whether or not those elements or events have been explored in the comic.
Due to page count, some of the "everything" will be sparse, but my goal is to get at least sidebars or story seeds for everything I know about the setting into the RPG. In part, I want to do that just to have a definitive setting bible out there, the way the old WEG Star Wars games were for that IP. But having all that stuff out there makes for a more interesting game as well -- every little story hook offers another (perhaps wildly divergent from canon but incredibly fun) possibility for your game to explore.
I would love to release a supplement later in 2013 or 2014 to flesh out all that "everything", but who knows.
Brian, that sounds great. I'm all for more ideas being in the book, making the game an Atomic Robo setting bible full of plot hooks only makes me want it more.
You might not be surprised to know that I own several copies of the Well of Souls RPG (though I don't think any of them are 100% complete) :)
